Water Hyacinth found in Albury – Report compiled by Jan Mitchell

While doing routine inspections around Albury’s residential houses I came across Water Hyacinth growing in tubs under a Lemon tree. The owner wasn’t home at the time and i could only see over the fence, and take some photos as it was in flower. I left a card in the letter box for the owner to contact me in regards to the Water Hyacinth. The owner contacted me and i asked some details as to where it came from and his response was that they have had it for years and that his mother would eat the plant. The owners were from Laos. We told the land owner that we would come back and remove the Water Hyacinth to a site prepared at the landfill. All the plant material and the tubs were removed and, no other plants were given to family members. Another good job done by the staff at Albury City Council.
