The ‘NSW – No Space 4 Weeds' program is a state-wide weed awareness program that highlights that weeds are everyone's problem and provides opportunities for the community of NSW to become part of the solution.
This year the theme is ‘Garden escapes'. It is not well known but most of Australia's weeds started out as garden plants. Of the 2,780 weeds found in Australia about 65% are garden plants that have escaped and become naturalised in the bush or invaded farmland.
Unfortunately, in many cases these plants have spread and become weeds because individuals have unknowingly planted the wrong plants or not disposed of their garden prunings appropriately.
The latest 'No Space 4 Weeds' campaign focusses on Alligator Weed.
