First Chilean Needle Grass plant found in Cootamundra Shire

Recently an infestation of Chilean needle grass was discovered just over the Cootamundra shire boundary, within the shire of Young.

Coordination between weed officers has commenced to hold a joint field day. The area in question is near the boundary of three shires.

Due to this recent discovery a full road survey to discover any infestations in the Cootamundra Shire has been undertaken Majority of the shire has been surveyed with the discovery of a single seeding plant close to town in a relatively unused lane way. Access is usually for two land holders and Telstra workers to access the communication tower. This is the first known Chilean Needle grass plant in the shire.
